RED HERRING REVEALS COMPANIES SELECTED FOR THE 2004 RED HERRING 100
Award Recognizes Top 100 Private Firms Driving the Future of Technology
San Francisco, May 11, 2004 – Red Herring today revealed the 2004 Red Herring 100, a list of the 100 private companies that play a leading role in innovation, technology and strategy.
Red Herring publisher Alex Vieux said the Red Herring 100 award has a tradition of identifying new and innovative technology companies and entrepreneurs.
“At the Red Herring we have the opportunity to meet the best and brightest technology companies that are transforming current markets and creating new ones,” said Vieux. “The Red Herring 100 is our annual list of the most promising private companies. Like Google, eBay and other previous Red Herring 100 alumni, these 100 have the potential to become the next titans of technology.”
Red Herring’s editorial staff rigorously evaluated more than 600 private companies through a careful analysis of financial data and subjective criteria, including quality of management, execution of strategy, and dedication to research and development.
“Many of the Red Herring 100 are dot com survivors, companies that secured funding before the bubble burst and navigated through the bleak years by maintaining a global focus,” continued Vieux. “We believe that these 100 rising stars indicate the return of the pure technology company.”
To honor the CEOs of Red Herring 100 companies, Red Herring will invite each CEO to attend the Red Herring Spring 2004 conference, a forum for technology’s greatest minds to share their insight into future of technology, innovation and the entrepreneurial journey. Scheduled for May 18-20, 2004 at the Monterey Plaza Hotel in Monterey, California, this intimate, three-day conference will feature keynotes from Robert Greifeld, NASDAQ president, CEO & director; Russell Artzt, Computer Associates International co-founder & CTO; and Red Herring 100 alum Jim Steele, president of Salesforce.com.
